Residents of Daultala seek civic amenities

By Our Correspondent

GUJAR KHAN, Oct 3: Residents of Daultala have complained that their town of more than 25,000 people is being denied required facilities like education, health care, sanitation and even potable water.

They pointed out that the water supply network, which was established in the area during late 60s, was lying un-operational for the last 10 years because of “the neglect of the public health engineering department and the district administration”.

“The locals have to bear great hardships in arranging water for drinking and domestic purposes,” they said. According to them, water drawn from wells is unfit for human consumption due to contamination.

Similarly, an old pond in near the boys primary school has become a filth depot where the municipal authorities and butchers dump the town’s garbage and animal entrails.

Children enrolled in the boundary-less school are directly affected by the unhygienic conditions, which also discourage the parents from sending their children to the educational facility.

The residents said pools of sewage overflowing from choked drains could be seen on majority of roads and in streets, spreading potentially fatal diseases.

They complained that the rural health centre in the area could not cater to the health care needs of the local population.

They said Daultala had been neglected by the public representatives elected from the constituency, adding that the town should also be awarded the status of a tehsil.
