Wasa to improve water supply to Shahdara

By Our Staff Reporter

LAHORE, Sept 15: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) of the Lahore Development Authority will prepare a plan to improve and rehabilitate water supply and the sewerage system in Shahdara.

“The area is of historic importance as it houses Tomb of Emperor Jahangir and efforts should be made to make it more attractive for tourists,” Wasa Vice-Chairman Bilal Yaseen said on Monday.

He directed Wasa Managing Director (MD) Dr Javed Iqbal to rehabilitate sewerage system and ensure potable water supply to the residents of localities along Lajpat Road and Match Factory. An emergency camp should be made to remove silt and garbage from the sewer pipes of the area. He said the presence of tube-well operators should be ensured; chlorination and flushing of water supply pipes be carried out to ensure uninterrupted supply of clean water to residents.

Development works worth of Rs50 million were completed during last fiscal while another Rs35 million would be utilised for water supply pipes at Shahdara.
