Flour supply to fair price shops ‘halted’

SHEIKHUPURA, Sept 3: A number of people on Wednesday protested against the district administration for halting flour supply to their fair price shops in different parts of the district and started it delivering to Lahore and other districts.

It was learnt that people were easily obtaining flour from more than 30 fair price shops established in four tehsils of the district. But on Wednesday afternoon, the district administration suddenly halted flour supply and started sending 20kg bags to Lahore.

Some citizens were of the view that they had been given substandard material at these shops.

District Coordination Officer Suleman Ijaz said there was no flour shortage in the district and fair price shops halted their working owing to some problem “but they are again selling eatables, including flour”.

POISONED: Two tenants allegedly poisoned their landlord to death to grab his property in the limits of Factory Area police on Wednesday.

Reports said Qasim and his son, Imran, had rented a house from Abdul Hameed. They invited Hameed to an Iftar dinner. After taking a cold drink, the landlord fell unconscious and later died in hospital.

The post-mortem report indicated that a poisonous drink caused his death.

During investigation, Qasim and Imran said they wanted to grab his property.

Further investigation is under way.

ROBBED: A businessman was deprived of his car, cash and valuables worth Rs1.2 million in the jurisdiction of Factory Area police.

Reports said Murtaza Naeem was on his way to home in Lahore when three armed men stopped him and made off with his car, cash and valuables.
