KARACHI: Ban on wheat movement lifted

KARACHI, July 4: A high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Friday decided to withdraw the ban on inter-district movement of wheat in the province.

The decision to this effect was taken at a joint meeting of the Sindh food department authorities, office-bearers of the Pakistan Flour Mills’ Association and traders in the CM House.

Mr Shah chaired the meeting, which reviewed the availability of the provincial food department’s wheat stocks, wheat supply and demand of flour in the open market and other relevant issues.

The chief minister maintained that the province had adequate wheat stocks. He said an attempt was being made to create a wheat crisis by hoarders and profiteers.

He said the government would not allow these vested interests to succeed, adding that the administration and law-enforcers had been directed to act sternly against such elements.

Qaim Ali Shah asked the millers and traders to bring down prices of eatables, including wheat flour. Check-posts would be established only on the Super Highway, the meeting was told.—PPI
