Nirmala ashes to be immersed near Sukkur

KARACHI, May 15: The ashes of Indian peace activist Nirmala Deshpande will be immersed in the Indus River near Sukkur on Saturday.

A Pakistan peace coalition delegation carrying the ashes will leave Karachi on Saturday morning for Sadhu Belo in Sukkur where the ashes will be immersed at 7pm.

A champion of the cause of peace, non-violence, interfaith harmony and rights of the downtrodden, Ms Deshpande died in Delhi on May 1.

Her ashes have already been immersed in various rivers in India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. It was her wish to have a part of her ashes immersed in the Sindhu Nadi (Indus River) as a mark of her love for the people of Pakistan and her commitment to lasting peace between India and Pakistan.—Staff Reporter
