Mediocre card at LRC midweek meet
By Aftab Gilani
LAHORE, April 29: The feature event looks like an open competition when a six-event mediocre card gets underway during the midweek day/night Lahore Gymkhana races on Wednesday evening.
There are 10 runners in the Kharian Plate, class VI division II to be gone over 1,000 metres. Of them four have good chance of winning. They are: Remember You, Jewna, Love Minister and Creek Cat.
This will be the first race in the racing order.
The Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards have announced that in view of the weather becoming hot it has been decided to hold day/night races in Lahore from now onwards.
In the supporting event, the Kharian Plate, class VI division III and IV to be contested over 1,000 metres, Sher-e-Lahore, Laina Again, Sun Shine and Geo Super are the prominent competitors. Sher-e-Lahore ran a good race finishing second behind Geo Super last week. Now he has an edge in the handicap to make amends this time. Geo Super has gone up in the weight scale after two straight victories and it looks an uphill task for it to complete a hat- trick of win.
Laina Again is a good mare but she will be on the course on Wednesday, since she ran and won a race on Jan 30. That gives Sher-e-Lahore, who is in good form, an edge to win the event. This will be the third race in racing order.
The second supporting event, the Kharian Plate, class VI division IV over 1,000 metres has 10 runners. But on form only three look in contention. They are: Dimple, Victory King and Dogar Gift.
There are 17 runners in the fourth race to be contested over 800 metres. On recent form and performances three are prominent. They are Better Time, Leader’s Wing and Mah-e-Noor. They should finish in the same order. Better Time with a facile win to his credit will be on the trot to make it two in a row.
Pure Power, Pretty and Kiss Of Love look good in the fifth race. Pure Power being the faster one looks in a better position to pick up the spoils.
The bay horse Shandar, who was beaten on his last outing, should show an improved performance in the sixth and last race. His close rivals could be Azeem Prince, Patola and Sana in the same order.
Of the six races on card, three will be contested over 1,000 metres and the other three over 800 metres. The first race will be held at 3.30pm.
