HYDERABAD, April 29: Police submitted final challan against former provincial minister for power and relief Altaf Unnar to the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday, in a case charging him with making a murderous attack on the Pakistan People’s Party MNA Dr Azra Pechuho on Feb 10, 2007.

The challan was submitted on the directives of additional district and sessions judge of Jamshoro after Ms Pechuho filed an application.

The accused was not brought to court from the Central Jail where he was imprisoned and the court adjourned the case to May 13.

Police claim in the challan that they have found a weapon allegedly used by Unnar on Feb 10, 2007 in firing on MNA Dr. Azra Pechuho outside a polling station in Budhapur during by-elections for PS-71.A separate case has also been lodged against Unnar under section 13-D of Arms Ordinance, claiming recovery of the weapon in Unnarpur forest. Police claimed they learned about it after interrogation of the accused.

Other accused of the main case include; Dr. Sohrab Sarki, then minister for inter-provincial coordination, PML Jamshoro president Malik Changez and others. Unnar was arrested from Larkana on April 15.

POWER OUTAGE: People furious at prolonged power breakdown burnt office furniture of Hesco’s Gari Khata subdivision and ransacked Hali Road’s subdivision office on Monday.

Many parts of the city, including Cantonment, Saddar, Lajpat road, Civil Lines, District Council, Gari Khata, Pucca Qilla, Defence and other areas remained without electricity from 4pm to around 3am on Tuesday morning.

Hesco spokesman attributed the breakdown to a fault developed in power supply lines in Qasimabad grid station.

The fault led to the breakdown of power supply to said grid station’s five feeders which were supplying power to above mentioned areas.

As tempers began to fray people ransacked Hesco’s Hali road’s subdivision office and set ablaze furniture in Gari Khata subdivision office located at Holmstead hall at around 12.30am.
