LAHORE, April 29: The Punjab government has appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police Pervez Rathore the new capital city police officer vice Malik Iqbal who has been made officer on special duty.

A notification in this regard was issued on Tuesday.

Mr Iqbal was promoted to the rank of the additional inspector general before his appointment as capital city police officer on Feb 11, 2007.

Sources told Dawn that Mr Rathore held a meeting with Punjab IG Shaukat Javed at the Central Police Office on Monday after he reported his services to the provincial government.

Mr Rathore was earlier working as deputy inspector general with the National Highways & Motorway Police and his services were sought by the Punjab government through Establishment Division. Earlier, he has served as senior superintendent of Islamabad police, personal staff officer of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and superintendent of Lahore police (administration).

A senior police officer told Dawn that Mr Rathore, who was trying to become inspector general of Islamabad police or Rawalpindi regional police officer, was reluctant to become Lahore CCPO, but Nawaz played a role in his appointment.

Meanwhile, the inspector general of Punjab police has transferred and posted superintendents of police.

SSP Ahsan Mahboob, awaiting posting, has been posted as Punjab AIG operations while AIG operations Zulfikar Hameed has been posted as AIG Finance. SP Jawad Ahmad Dogar has been posted as AIG Logistics. CID SP Chaudhry Shafqaat has been directed to report to the central police for further posting, while SSP Muhammad Zubair has been posted as CID SSP.
