Restoration of train service urged

MIRPURKHAS, April 28: The district council on Monday unanimously passed a resolution demanding resumption of Mehran Express, which stopped plying between Mirpurkhas and Karachi via Hyderabad three and half months ago after Dec 27 violence.

The council meeting presided over by Naib Nazim Dr Zafar Ahmed Kamali passed another resolution urging the government to provide funds directly to the union councils and ensure use of standard materials in the construction of roads.

The members also demanded immediate removal of encroachments in Mirpurkhas city. Fakhruddin Bhatti, a member, said that flour crisis still persisted in the district. It was being sold at Rs21 per kilogram, he said stressing the need for activating the district price control committee.

The council formed a health committee comprising Wazir Ali Mari, Ali Mardan Shah, Mujeebul Haq, Wali Mohammad Inqalabi and Dr Saima to monitor the affairs of the Civil Hospital and submit a report to the council in the next meeting.
