KARACHI: Afaq’s bail plea rejected
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, April 24: The additional district and sessions judge-III, East, Abdul Rehman Bhatti, on Thursday rejected the bail application of the chairman of the Muhajir Quami Movement-Haqiqi, Afaq Ahmed, in two cases registered against him for allegedly possessing illegal weapons and explosives.
The judge observed that he found no merit in the application to grant bail and adjourned the hearing till May 15.
The prosecution said that two men booked under Section 13-D of the Arms Ordinance, when interrogated, disclosed that Afaq Ahmed had called them in Defence area. They said he had allegedly handed over arms and explosives, directing them to store the same somewhere in Landhi. Police had registered two cases (FIRs 104/2005 and 105/2005) against Afaq Ahmed under Section 13-E of the Arms Ordinance 1965 and Sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Explosives Act.
The defence counsel, Suhail Anjum Ahmed, said that his client was being victimised on political basis and the police had registered cases against Afaq Ahmed at the behest of some political elements.
