QUETTA, April 23: Police have detained 23 suspects in connection with the killing of Balochistan Universitys pro-vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Safdar Ali Kiyani.

Dr Kiyani was gunned down in Quetta on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people attended the funeral prayer for Dr Kiyani on Wednesday. Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi and Balochistan High Court’s Chief Justice Amanullah Khan Yasinzai were among the mourners.

Representatives of various political parties and students organisations have condemned the assassination of Dr Kiyani and demanded that culprits be brought to book.

The Balochistan University, University of Information and Technology, the Lasbela University of Marine and Agriculture Sciences, Balochistan Women University and Khuzdar Engineering University were closed on Wednesday in protest against the killing.
