PESHAWAR: Transporters seek facilities for commuters

PESHAWAR, April 22: Sarhad Public Transport Legal Action Committee, which has contributed more than Rs4,633,000 for the construction of toilets, waiting rooms and provision of drinking water to management of Peshawar Bus Terminal, has demanded of contractors to provide all these facilities immediately to the passengers.

Speaking at a joint news conference at shawar Press Club on Tuesday, SPTLAC president Haji Ehsanullah Khan said the transporter community had been paying Rs17,160 per day since July 1, 2007 to incumbent contractor, Daleel Khan, for providing basic facilities to the commuters.

“We have so for paid Rs4,633,200 to Daleel Khan to accomplish public requirements, but we have stopped more contribution by March 31, 2008,” he added. He said from now onward they would pay only scheduled stand fees, because transporters had done a lot for their worthy commuters.

Sarhad Transport Workers Confederation president M Zahir Shah, Local Transport chief Jehangir Khan Afridi, Rickshaw Union president Amanullah Khan, Zarghun Shah, Aftab Khan, Hameed Bacha, Haji Khushdil Khan, Dr Shah Faisal and Abdur Rasheed were also present on the occasion.
