ISLAMABAD, April 17: Speakers at a seminar held here on Thursday called for the release of the victims of enforced disappearance.

Speaking at the seminar on “Do countries sell their own people?” organised by the Defence of Human Rights Committee and Pakistan Professional Forum, they vowed to continue their struggle for rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution.

The speakers included Amir Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Qazi Hussain Ahmad, justice Wajihuddin Ahmad (retired) and chairman Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf Imran Khan.

On the occasion, Qazi Hussain Ahmed said that the people of Pakistan had given a verdict against President Musharraf in the February 18 elections.

He said missing of a single European or American creates tumult, but, he added, nothing happens when thousands of people are killed and hundreds of people disappear in Pakistan.

Mr Wajihuddin said those who strangulated democracy and distorted the Constitution should be identified and punished in accordance with the law of the land. He said that absence of system of “reward and punishment” in the country makes the people suffer.

“Recovery of the missing persons was not impossible as only will and motivation is required to ensure that the victims of enforced disappearance join their families”, he remarked.

Imran Khan said about 200 students of the religious seminaries had been arrested after the London bombing with any proper investigation and solid proof against them.

Mr Khan said President Musharraf had failed to deliver what he had been promising to the people of Pakistan and demanded his immediate impeachment by the Parliament.
