LAHORE, April 16: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Wednesday that the PPP would continue to pursue its policy of reconciliation because it wanted to work in cooperation with all political parties.

The prime minister was talking to media personnel after a meeting with PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif at the latter’s residence in Raiwind.

Asked whether the process of talks with the MQM was over, he said: “There are ups and downs in politics, but the policy to seek reconciliation will continue.”

Mian Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Dost Mohammad Khosa, Zulfiqar Khosa, Hussain Nawaz and Hamza Shahbaz were present on the occasion. The prime minister said that decisions on all issues would be taken in consultation with the coalition partners.

Regarding the recent demonstration in Multan, he said: “The power and flour crises are the result of wrong policies of the previous regime, and the present government will overcome these problems in cooperation with the masses.”

He blamed ‘miscreants’ for the Multan incidents. They wanted to divert people’s attention from real issues and probably targeted Multan because the prime minister was from there, he said.

Mr Gilani urged people to remain peaceful and foil the evil designs of such elements.

To a question about the future of President Pervez Musharraf, he said: “The decision in this regard will be taken according to the Constitution.” Regarding reinstatement of deposed judges, he said: “We are committed to take steps in this regard as per the Bhurban Declaration.”—APP
