Qayyum refuses to speak on NA resolution

LAHORE, April 15: Attorney-General Malik Qayyum on Tuesday refused to offer his comments on whether a National Assembly resolution would be the right way to have the deposed judges restored.

So far, he has consistently been saying that the reinstatement of judges would be possible only through an amendment to the Constitution, for which the ruling coalition would have to come up with a two-thirds majority in both the houses of parliament.

“It's for the parliament to decide the issue (of the restoration of judges). I’ll offer any comments only when the parliament takes a decision,” said the attorney general.

Then he disconnected the call.

When approached again to ask about his own future and that of President Musharraf, his aide said the attorney general was in a meeting and could not take the call.— Political Correspondent
