By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 14: A 45-year-old teacher of a religious institute was shot dead on Monday in Ghazi Town in Malir, witnesses and police said. Malir City police said Maulana Mufti Saeedur Rahman, who hailed from Mardan, was killed by two robbers who wanted to rob him a little before dawn when he was going to mosque for Fajr prayers.

The mufti was a teacher at Madrassah Qadria in Ghazi Town, Malir, and he was shot dead near his institute.

Witnesses said Maulana Rahman was targeted by two motorcyclists who rode away after killing the victim. They said the students of the Madrassah Qadria came out of their institute when they heard the news about the killing of their teacher. The witnesses said the students chanted slogans against the incident before the body of the slain teacher was transported to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Hospital sources said the victim was shot twice in his upper torso from a pointblank range as both the bullets pierced through the body.

Later, the body was dispatched to the victim’s hometown in the NWFP.

Suspect killed

A suspected burglar was shot dead by the owner of the house in Federal B. Area.

Jauharabad police said the three burglars sneaked into the house of Rizwan Ahmed in Dastagir Colony in the small hours of Monday.

They said the house owner woke up and killed one of the intruders with his licensed pistol.

The police said the accomplices of the killed suspect fled the scene.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the suspect remained unidentified.

Hospital sources said the deceased was in his mid-20s and he looked like a Bengali-speaking youth.
