Qazi holds president Responsible for riots
By Our Staff Reporter
LAHORE, April 10: Jamaat-i-Islami amir Qazi Husain Ahmad has held the presidency responsible for manhandling of Dr Sher Afgan and the subsequent riots in Karachi.
Talking to reporters at Mansoora on Thursday, he alleged that President Musharraf was hatching conspiracies to save his rule and regretted that the new government had not yet proved its independence.
He said as a popular and democratic government its first priority should have been restoration of the deposed judges and release of Dr A.Q. Khan.
He alleged that the MQM was involved in the destruction of the country and the `ruffians’ backed by the group attacked lawyers in Karachi on Wednesday. All that took place after a meeting between attorney-general Malik Qayyum and Altaf Husain in London, he added.
He said the law and order situation was being created to defame democracy and democratic governments. The solution to foil these designs was immediately implementing the Murree Declaration.
He said the judges restoration involved no legal complication as the Nov 3, 2007 order was unconstitutional, illegal and lacked moral basis and thus could be withdrawn through an executive order.
He demanded that as the emergency plus was a violation of the Constitution former army chief Pervez Musharraf must be awarded punishment accordingly.
PTI: The Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf has condemned the Wednesday's incidents in Lahore and Karachi which, it says, have affected the struggle for the survival of constitutional and democratic institutions.
Information secretaries Omar Sarfaraz Cheema and Sheikh Mujeebullah Mushtaq said in a statement that the incidents were engineered to sabotage the movement for the independence of judiciary.
