RAWALPINDI, March 31: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) here on Monday directed Aabpara police to hand over valuable items that had been seized from former chief cleric of Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz when he was arrested.

The claimant, Majida Aziz alias Umme Hassan, wife of Maulana Abdul Aziz, submitted in Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) No. 1 a written consent on the behalf of her husband about the legal possession of the items in police custody.

Judge Chaudhry Habibur Rehman directed Aabpara police to hand over the items taken into possession at the time of the arrest of Maulana Aziz and his daughter Tayyaba Dua when they were leaving Lal Masjid during the military operation last July.

The wife of Maulana Aziz had filed two different applications through Wajihullah advocate for the recovery of Rs241,740 and 200 Saudi Riyals that were confiscated from the Maulana.

The applicant had also sought the legal custody of a gold bracelet, two gold rings, two gold earrings and a black veil seized from Tayyaba Dua, her younger daughter.

The applicant had stated that both the accused were arrested for their alleged involvement in a case registered with Margalla police station under the charges of kidnapping, police encounter, unlawful assembly and house trespass.

The applicant through another application had sought the legal custody of two vehicles that were taken into custody by the capital police in the military operation against the alleged militants holed up in the mosque.

Meanwhile an additional sessions judge (ASJ) granted bail to a Chinese man against the surety bonds worth Rs50,000 in a liquor case registered with Sadiqabad police station on November 17 last year.

The police claimed to have recovered 17 drums, 10 jerry cans, 24 gallons and 30 bottles of liquor from Young Li who was residing in a house in C-Block Satellite Town.

Police had said the Chinese was preparing liquor and selling it unlawfully.
