KARACHI, March 28: Four more club team matches were decided on the first day of the second week at the 1st Under-15 Youth Football Championship involving 16 schools and an equal number of academies at a local stadium here in Karachi.

In the first match involving Group ‘E’ teams, Malik United emerged victorious against Laurentian Football Club by 3-1. The match had its moments of excitement when Laurentian’s Shujhal helped his rivals add another to their two-goal tally through an ‘own’ goal.

This could have been a high-scoring victory for Malik United had it not been for Laurentian’s goalie Sel DeCosta who stopped many daring attempts including a penalty awarded to Malik United in the second half. Sadam (40th minute) and Waqar (31st minute) were the scorers for the winning side, with the own goal happening in the 17th minute. Jason Pinto scored the only goal (2nd minute) for the losing side.

Malik United now has six points and Laurentian none.

The second match, also a Group ‘E’ tie, was played between ZU Football Academy and Karachi Youth Soccer Academy and was won by ZU Academy 4-0. Shahbaz scored two goals (15th and 31st minute) and Adil scored one (16th minute) for the winners with their fourth one presented to them in the shape of an ‘own’ goal by the losing outfit. With six points, ZU Academy is still on equal footing with Malik United in Group ‘E’. Karachi Youth Soccer Club has yet to open its account.

The third match played in Group ‘G’ between Gulshan Soccer Academy and Zamzama United Football Club was switched with the originally scheduled Group ‘F’ match between Karachi City Football Academy and Karachi United Football Club as some players in these two sides couldn’t show up on Friday.

The match, however, resulted in a 1-1 draw with Gulshan’s Wasay Khan scoring in the 30th minute followed by Zamzama’s lone goal contributed by Mehtab Hasan in the 37th minute. Both teams now have four points each.

The final match of the day played between the Group ‘F’ teams Gharibshah M’Dan and Hussaini Sports Club was won by Gharibshah 4-0. Sher Muhammad (18th minute), M. Allahbux (25th and 31st minutes) and Uzair (35th minute) scored for the winning side who after winning both their matches in Group ‘F’ are leading with six points.
