Galiyat’s action lends mystery to accident

By Abid Fazil Abbasi

MURREE, March 20: An air of mystery pervaded the serenity of Nathiagali on Thursday after four bodies were found in a car that plunged into a ravine after skidding off the road.

People living in the vicinity succeeded in extricating the bodies after prising open the car following a tenacious half-hour attempt. After some time police also rushed to the place.

But a surprise was awaiting them. Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain, a brother of former prime minister Shujaat Hussain, reached the scene with an armed escort, insisting on taking the bodies to hospital for post-mortem.

The policemen finally disarmed Mr Wajahat’s companions and asked them to show licences. They failed to do so.

Police then took the bodies to the Chhangla Gali post. Chaudhry Wajahat pestered them in vain with requests for custody of the bodies.

The SHO of Doonga Gali police station told Dawn Wajahat Hussain had not been taken into detention, clarifying that he was sitting in the police station of his own will.

In reply to a question why the bodies were not being handed over to him, he said the head of one the bodies has not been found so far.

A large crowd thronged the station, urging the police to arrest Chaudhry Wajahat.
