Godara steals the show in polo cup

By Our Sports Reporter

LAHORE, March 18: Six-goal Dhruvpal Godara stole the limelight in the Emaar polo cup on Tuesday when he helped Nirala Sweets edge out Shaheen Insurance by 7- 6 1/2.

The losing side, with a half-goal handicap, was on to an impressive start, gaining a 3 1/2-0 lead. Mian Shahzad Aziz banged home three goals for them, scoring two in the first chukker, while two-goal Shah Shamyl Alam hit his first.

But operation recovery was initiated then by the winners in the second chukker as Godara went on a rampage, scoring two goals in a row by converting 30 and 40-yard penalty hits to reduce the margin to 3 1/2-2.

The third chukker saw the winners become more offensive, gaining a 5-4 1/2 lead. Godara pumped in two more and Saqib Khan Khakwani added one. Meanwhile Shahzad fired his second for the losing side.

The fight for supremacy was on in the final chukker too and it was Godara once again, who twice rescued the winners from being defeated. He scored two more goals to make the tally while Shamyl and Taimur Ali Malik struck one each for the losing side.

In another match, an eight-goal rally led by Taimur Mawaz Khan and Raja Samiullah steered Askari Bank to a big 8-4 win against Hattaf Security.

Taimur (3), Samiullah (3), Ahmed Zubair (1) and Hamza Mawaz Khan (1) shared the scoring honours. Agha Murtaza Ali Khan scored the goals for the losing side with a two-goal handicap.
