QUETTA, March 10: A six-member delegation of newly-elected MPAs headed by PPP’s parliamentary leader Nawab Aslam Raisani met Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi here on Monday and called upon him to convene the provincial assembly session without delay.

The delegation informed the governor that the PPP enjoyed support of 45 members in the house of 65.

The delegation included former deputy speaker of the Balochistan Assembly Aslam Bhootani, Sardar Aslam Bizenjo, Ali Madad Jattak, Younus Mullazai and Mir Qambar Gichki.

The governor informed the delegation that the provincial assembly session would be summoned after the convening of the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, Mr Bhootani demanded in a statement that sessions of the national and provincial assemblies be convened without any delay to allow majority groups to form governments.

He said that three weeks had passed since the election, but the government was not serious about convening the assembly session which was creating doubts. He said that in 1970 then president General Yahya Khan used delaying tactics and did not accept people’s verdict and that resulted in the break-up of the country.

“Delay in convening assemblies’ sessions is creating unrest and apprehensions among people,” he said.

SUPPORT FOR PPP: Three newly-elected members of the Balochistan assembly on Monday announced their support for the Pakistan People’s Party’s nominee for the post of chief minister, Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani.

The members, Sardar Masood Ahmed Luni and Mohammad Khan Toor Utmankhel of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q and Jan Ali Changezi, an independent, held a meeting with Nawab Raisani at the Sarawan House.

Later, addressing a news conference they said that the decision had been taken in the larger interest of the province.

After the support of the three MPAs, the strength of Nawab Raisani’s group has reached 45 in the house 65.
