Rival groups resort to heavy firing

SUKKUR March 6: Tension ran high in Bachal Shah Miani in Abad police station limits here on Thursday, following exchange of fire between two groups of residents over old enmity.

According to details armed men from both groups resorted to firing forcing people to remain indoors with markets also closed. No casualty or injury was reported.

A heavy contingent of police and Rangers led by the DPO Sukkur Arab Mahar raided and after cordoning off the area conducted house-to-house search. They arrested two men Ali Hassan Mirani and Ali Ahmed Mirani and recovered four KK rifles, one pistol and sizable quantity of ammunition.

According to DPO Sukkur, a dispute between the rival groups over a murder case has claimed six lives.

Besides, patrolling by police and Rangers, pickets too had been set up to avert bloodshed.

PROTEST: Villagers staged demonstration and sit-in outside the Ghotki DPO office in Mirpur Mathelo on Thursday against increasing incidents of motorcycle snatching in the area.

A Hesco employee Mumtaz Leghari was going on a motorcycle to Mirpur Mathelo from Dad Leghari. Upon reaching Daharki Link Road, a group of armed robbers intercepted him and on gunpoint snatched motorcycle, mobile phone and cash and fled.

After half an hour of the incident, a schoolteacher Niaz Ahmed Leghari was on way to Mirpur Mathelo on a motorcycle when robbers snatched his motorcycle from the same spot and fled.

Following two incidents, scores of residents of Dad Leghari led by Karim Bux and others reached the office of DPO Ghotki in Mirpur Mathelo and staged demonstration while shouting slogans against police. Protestors also burnt tyres and blocked the road for an hour.

The DPO Ghotki Tanveer Ahmed Tahir negotiated with the protestors and assured them of arrest of culprits and recovery of snatched motorcycle within a week, hence blockade ended.

WOMAN KILLED: A woman was killed by her husband and his accomplices over karo-kari in Khuda Abad village in “B” section police station jurisdiction, Kandhkot on Thursday.

Accused Dilbar Bhangwar along with his accomplices attacked his wife Mst Marvi with hatchets, killing her on the spot and fled. No case was registered.

A 30-year old man Chohar Sabzoi resident of Karim Bux Sabzoi village in Risaldar police limits, near Kandhkot committed suicide following some domestic problems.

KILLED: A man was killed by unknown armed persons over an old enmity in the cattle market in Kashmore early on Thursday morning.

A cattle trader Darokh Bhangwar was selling his merchandise in the market when some unknown armed men shot him dead and fled.

Police reached the crime scene and moved the body to Kashmore hospital for postmortem. No case was registered till the filing of the report.
