PESHAWAR: Nowshera park to be converted into zoo

By Zulfiqar Ali

PESHAWAR, March 5: The district government Nowshera has terminated agreement with the University of Peshawar about establishment of a botanical garden at Azakhel Park and has planned to convert the park into a zoo, sources said here on Wednesday.

An official said that the university’s administration had failed to fulfil terms and conditions of the agreement after which the district government unilaterally abolished the deal.

He said now district government had decided to establish a zoo at the abandoned park situated on the Grand Trunk Road. He said that negotiations were underway among the officials of the district government, provincial government and the NWFP Wildlife Department to finalise modalities of the project.

The NWFP government had planned to establish a zoo in Peshawar last year, but the project could not see light of the day in the wake of non-availability of land in the district.
