RAWALPINDI, Feb 29: Sardar Asmatullah advocate was on Friday reelected president of the High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Rawalpindi for 2008 on Friday.
Asmatullah secured 1,113 votes and his rival Ibadur Rehman Lodhi advocate got 764. Vice-president Babr Ali advocate obtained 1,306 votes and his rival Shiekh Tahir Aslam got 331.
Malik Saddique Awan won the seat of general secretary and secured 989 votes whereas his rival candidate Raja Zaheerud Din Babar secured 840 votes. Raja Furrukh Arif Bhatti won the seat of joint secretary and secured 995 votes and the other contestant Azhar Hussain Malik got 672 votes. Out of total 2578 votes 1900 were polled on Friday and 10 votes were rejected.
The lawyers from Rawalpindi division and Islamabad cost their votes at the hall of HCBA at Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench. The atmosphere was charged as lawyers elected their representatives.
The reelected president Sardar Asmatullah had led the lawyers of Rawalpindi in their struggle for the restoration of chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and later against November 3 emergency and ouster of more than 60 judges of supreme and higher courts.
