Power pylon damaged

KOHAT, Feb 9: The pylon of a high power transmission line was damaged in an explosion in the Ghulam Banda area of Kohat district on Friday night.

The pylon was repaired on Saturday evening.

Police said five kilogrammes of explosive material was attached to the four pillars of the tower which exploded with a big bang. Ghulam Banda is the area where militants had damaged a railway bridge earlier this month.

Meanwhile, security was tightened at the Friendship Tunnel and other sensitive places. About 25 militants had attacked the tunnel’s old toll booth and occupied it for a brief period on Friday night.

District coordination officer and Kohat political agent Kamran Zeb held a meeting with high-ups of intelligence agencies and discussed the presence in the area of a large number of militants who had escaped from Darra Adamkhel.

The DCO also held a jirga in Darra Adamkhel and warned the tribesmen that if they provided shelter to militants the military operation would be prolonged in the area.
