Lawyers protest ban on Aitzaz

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, Feb 4: Members of the Sindh High Court and Sukkur District Bar Associations boycotted court proceedings and staged a protest demonstration outside the district court here on Monday in protest against the ban on the entry into the province of Supreme Court Bar Association president Aitzaz Ahsan.

The protesters led by SHCBA, Sukkur, president Imdad Ali Awan, general secretary Shabbir Shar, DBA chief Qurban Malano and general secretary Shafqat Rahim Rajput chanted slogans against the government.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders criticised the ban and said the government was resorting to negative tactics because it was afraid of the lawyers’ movement.

They said the caretaker government’s action had exposed its tall claims about democracy.

They vowed to continue their struggle till the achievement of its goal.

They said house arrest of the leaders could not weaken the lawyers’ struggle which would continue till the restoration of all the deposed judges.

WOMEN PRISONERS: Provincial caretaker Minister for Women Development and Population Welfare Nadra Panjwani visited the Central Jail-II here on Monday with the inspector-general of prisons.

The minister visited the women’s ward and enquired about the welfare of the prisoners and progress of their cases.
