MIRPURKHAS, Jan 28: A teenaged girl was critically injured when she was attacked with an axe after she tried to resist an attempted criminal assault in Gango Teeli village near the Ring Road here on Monday evening.

Sodho Khokhar told reporters in the Civil Hospital that his brother-in-law Noor Mohammad Khokhar tried to rape his sister Bashiran, 18, when he and his wife were not at home.

He also said that Javed and Ghulam Hussain, both brothers of the accused, had tortured her.

He said that officials of the town police had arrested Noor Mohammad but had later released him because of an underhand deal.

Police have registered a non-cognisable report of the incident, while the victim was in the surgical ward.
