Report on pre-poll concerns

ISLAMABAD, Jan 28: A report prepared by the Centre for Media and Democracy, a Pakistani NGO, on pre-poll concerns and observations about the Feb 18 elections will be released in Islamabad on Feb 1, according to a decision taken at a meeting of the centre’s board of governors held here on Monday.

The report is primarily an independent document covering vote registration process, voters’ education, civil society participation, election campaigns, allotment of election symbols, scrutiny of nomination papers, rejection of papers and appeals.

The report also focuses on complaints regarding violations of election’s code of conduct by some candidates and political parties. Besides covering concerns and observations of civil society representatives, participating candidates, international monitors and media personnel, the report contains a critical evaluation of the causes of delay in the polls.

The meeting formed a review commission comprising representatives from civil society and academia to send fact-finding missions to sensitive constituencies in the four provinces, says a press release.—Staff Reporter
