RAWALPINDI, Jan 28: Lawyers here on Monday condemned registration of a criminal case against some 100 lawyers of Attock for holding a protest rally against the removal of superior court judges on Saturday.

The Rawalpindi Bar Association in its general body meeting criticised the government and said no coercion could tame the lawyers and they would continue their protest for the restoration of judges and rule of law in the country.

According to a press release of the association, the newly-elected chairman of Punjab Bar Council’s executive committee, Intikhab Shah, on the occasion said the lawyers would bring their struggle to its logical conclusion.

“Official highhandedness and use of brute force cannot deter the lawyers from continuing their struggle,” he added.

Later, the lawyers observed a hunger strike and marched on the court premises raising slogans against the government and for restoration of removed judges.

ATTOCK: The District Bar Association (DBA) Attock announced that it would observe a strike on Tuesday to protest the registration of the case against its members.

In a statement, the president of the association Rana Afsar Ali Khan said the decision was taken at a meeting of the DBA executive body on Monday.

He said lawyers of all tehsil bar associations including Pindigheb, Jand, Fatehjang and Hasanabdal would also join the strike and boycott the courts.

The DBA would also hold a meeting to chalk out its future strategy over the situation, he added.

The DBA said nearly 100 lawyers including its president, vice- president Syed Tahir Bukhari and general secretary Malik Israr were booked by the Attock city police for holding a protest rally against the government.

No arrest has been made so far; however, police crackdown could be launched for the arrest of lawyers involved in the case, sources said.

TAXILA: President Taxila Bar Association Mohammad Afzal Janjua has said lawyers’ movement will continue till restoration of pre-November 3 judiciary headed by deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.
