NAWABSHAH, Jan 23: The Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) of the Nawabshah Medical College Hospital runs short on proper equipment, drugs, doctors and paramedics, adding to the woes of heart patients who come to the hospital from various parts of Dadu, Sanghar, Naushahro Feroze and Nawabshah districts.

The patients and the members of general public have made repeated appeals to the authorities concerned about the plight of cardiac unit but no action has been taken so far to bring relief to the poor patients.

They complained of poor cleanliness in the hospital and demanded that the heart patients should at least be provided facilities for angiography and bypass.

The CCU faces shortage of beds, testing equipment, medicines, doctors and paramedics. The unit’s ETT machine has been out of order for six months, increasing burden on the poor patients’ pockets as they have to go to private medical centres for the test.

Sources in the unit said that an MRI machine worth Rs8 million had also been out of order for a long time.—PPI
