Public school sweeps science contest

LARKANA, Jan 23: The Public School Larkana clinched the first position, the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) claimed the second and the Cadet College Larkana made it to the third at the conclusion of two-day intercollegiate science exhibition on Wednesday.

The students of the three institutions had put on display around 30 projects in the exhibition, which ranged from websites to power generation by solar energy.

A large number of students from different schools and colleges visited the two-day exhibition, which was organised by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Larkana.

District Coordination Officer Ghulam Mustafa Phull who chaired the exhibition’s concluding session underlined the need for promoting healthy competition among educational institutions in the district.

He said the exhibitions would greatly help in hunting talent urged all the academic institutions to make an annual feature of their academic calendars.

A four-member committee of judges comprising senior professors announced position holders after visiting the stalls and getting briefed about the projects.

Later, the DCO handed over trophies to the position holders.

Doctors: The Doctors Action Committee on Wednesday demanded that the Sindh government should give appointment letters to the doctors who had passed the recently held entry test conducted by the National Testing Service for vacant posts in the rural and basic health centres of the province.

The committee leaders said after a protest demonstration that Sindh Health Department had organised test on Nov 4 for filling 1,605 vacant posts of medical officers.

Around 5,500 doctors appeared in the test and only 1,584 got through it but the passing candidates were still waiting for the offer letters, they said.
