ICC moves Kenya game to UAE due to violence

DUBAI, Jan 14: The International Cricket Council has moved Kenya’s Intercontinental Cup match against Namibia from Nairobi to Sharjah due to the continued post-election violence which has claimed 575 lives.

The match from Jan 29- Feb 1 was originally scheduled for Nairobi from Jan 30 to Feb 2. It is part of ICC’s second tier competition below ranks of Test playing nations.

“It is difficult at any time to make late changes to international tours and this decision is no different because of interest in cricket in Kenya,” said ICC High Performance Manager Richard Done. “However, safety of all participants is always our number one priority.”

“In conjunction with three affected countries — Kenya, Namibia and the UAE — and ensure travel and other logistics could be put in place with some certainty, it has been decided to move Kenya-Namibia match to the UAE.”

Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Bermuda, Canada and the UAE are other teams involved in competition. Kenya tops standings after winning first two matches.—Agencies
