Woman dies during police raid

KHAIRPUR, Jan 12: Ms Hawa 50, wife of Allah Obhayo Khaskheli died late on Friday night allegedly due to harassment created by Faiz Ganj police during raid on village Sadai Khaskheli.

About 300 protesters, including relatives of deceased, women and children of the village staged a demonstration by placing her body on Kumb-Nawabshah road near Lothi bus stop to protest against the police, on Saturday.

The protesters blocked the road and raised slogans against the police. They alleged that the woman fell unconscious during the police raid and demanded registration of case against the police.

TPO Thari Mirwah reached the spot and held talks with the protesters. GSTA leader Ashraf Khaskheli, nazim UC Bhango Behan, Imdad Rajpar and others represented the protesters in the negotiations. They informed the TPO that the woman had died of harassment created by police.

They demanded registration of case against police officials and sought an assurance that police would not raid their village without any reason in the future. The TPO told them that an inquiry would be held into the death of Ms Hawa and action would be taken on the basis of inquiry report. Protesters claimed that women were also tortured by raiding police party.
