PESHAWAR, Dec 13: Six newly-appointed additional judges of the Peshawar High Court were sworn in under the Provisional Constitution Order here on Thursday night. The high court’s Acting Chief Justice, Juctice Saleem Khan, administered the oath to Justice Shahjee Rehman Khan, Justice Ghulam Mohyuddin Malik, Justice Yahya Zahid Gillani, Justice Ziauddin Khattak, Justice Musadiq Hussain Gillani and Justice Mohammad Alam.
The judges have been appointed for one year, says a notification.
Five of the new judges belong to the cadre of district and sessions judge while the sixth is a lawyer from Mardan.
Justice Shahjee Rehman was serving as the presiding officer of an anti-terrorism court in Peshawar and Justice Ghulam Mohyuddin Malik was posted in Charssada. They are senior-most among the district and sessions judges.
Justice Yahya Gillani was fifth on the seniority list, Justice Ziauddin Khattak was sixth and Justice Mussadiq Gillani, who has been serving as PHC’s registrar, was 10th.
With these appointments, the strength of judges in the high court has risen to 13 while the sanctioned strength is 15.
