Journalists’ protest in Washington

By Our Correspondent

WASHINGTON, Dec 3: US and Pakistani journalists protested outside the White House on Sunday evening to press for their demands for the restoration of the judiciary and a free media in Pakistan.

Dozens of journalists braved cold and freezing rains to attend the rally. They urged the Bush administration to use its influence to undo the effects of the emergency imposed on Nov 3.

They demanded that the judiciary be restored to what it was before Nov 3 and all the judges forcibly retired be taken back.

They also urged the Bush administration to persuade Islamabad to withdraw the restrictions imposed on the media after

Nov 3 and rescind a new contract it is forcing media owners to sign.
