MULTAN, Dec 3: Citizens under the banner of Muttahida Shehri Mahaz (united citizens front) staged a demonstration here on Monday to protest the establishment of ‘Punjab Rung’ FM radio station by the district government at the Scouts Headquarters building near Kalma Chowk.

The management of the FM radio has occupied all the five rooms of the boys’ hostel of the Scouts Headquarters.

The radio station has been established on the orders of the district nazim under the aegis of provincial culture and language institute.

Addressing the demonstrators, front president Tariq Naeemullah said the building was situated in the heart of the city and had lucrative property value, and that’s why every opportunist was eying its occupation.

He said many attempts by influential people had been made in the past to get the control of this precious piece of land and to use it for commercial purposes.

He said once a town nazim had suggested shifting the headquarters and construct a five-star hotel there. It was also suggested that the Rescue 1122 office should be established at this place.

He said now the district nazim had allowed establishing ‘Punjab Rung’ FM Radio’s office in the building, which was an initial stage of a conspiracy to get the building vacated by the scouting officials and eventually grabbed by some influential.

He said the front would continue its protest till the withdrawal of the decision of establishing FM radio in the building.
