Tough contest likely in Sialkot city

By Our Correspondent

SIALKOT, Dec 3: A tough contest is likely at Sialkot city’s constituency, NA-110, where Pakistan Muslim League’s both Quaid-i-Azam and Nawaz factions have fielded their old candidates. The area is considered to be hub of PML-N as its candidates had won the seat in 1988, 1990, 1993 and 1997 elections.

The PML-N has fielded its central leader Khawaja Muhammad Asif, who has returned to the National Assembly from this constituency thrice, while PML-Q has nominated Mian Muhammad Riaz once again.

The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal has fielded its former MPA Arshad Mehmood Baggu from this constituency.

The PPP has fielded party’s city chapter president, Chaudhry Zahid Bashir, instead of Raja Aamir Khan who, along with Mian Riaz, lost to Khawaja Asif in 2002.

Khawaja Asif is the son of prominent politician late Khawaja Muhammad Safdar and has close association especially with Nawaz Sharif. Mian Riaz and Arshad Baggu are also considered to be well-connected personalities. All these candidates are claiming to give a tough time to their rivals in the Jan 8 general elections.
