LAHORE, Nov 13: Pakistan’s ace fast bowler Mohammad Asif, who is suffering from a nagging elbow injury, remains hopeful of playing a key role in the ongoing away home series against India.

“I do not rule myself out of the entire series against India because I am improving under the able guidance of the PCB doctor at the National Cricket Academy and doing my training regularly,” Asif told Dawn on Tuesday.

The lanky pacer, who could only participate in one ODI of the five-match home series against South Africa in Multan on Oct 26, is likely to go to Australia for medical advice on the nature of his elbow injury.

“The PCB is trying to get an appointment with a medical expert in Australia and hopefully it will be some time in next week,” said Asif.

“I have been advised a four-week rest now but after my visit to to consult the specialist, I will hopefully be available for the team in India,” he hoped.

With Asif not fully fit, fast bowler Mohammad Sami is likely to join Pakistan team in his place before the start of the three-Test series.
