KARACHI: Teachers observe ‘black day’

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 2: More than 3,000 teachers from 118 colleges of the metropolis observed ‘black day’ against the Saturday night raid by intruders on the Regional Directorate of Colleges in which several rooms were ransacked, records destroyed and equipment taken away.

Teachers wore black armbands while on duty at almost all colleges in the city and held protest meetings to condemn the raid.

Addressing the meetings, leaders of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA) said that the intruders broke open the gate of the directorate, ransacked several rooms and decamped with PCs and official record.

Participants of the meetings demanded immediate arrest of the intruders and recovery of the directorate’s property.

They also suggested that the directorate be shifted to the Sindh Secretariat.

Meanwhile, the SPLA President Syed Riaz Ahsan chaired a meeting of the organization on Friday. The meeting criticised the provincial education minister and the secretary for turning a blind eye towards the matters pertaining to education and literacy.
