GPO staff on strike against attitude of official

By Our Reporter

RAWALPINDI, Oct 29: Over 500-member staff of the General Post Office (GPO) Melody Market observed a strike on Monday in a protest against the attitude of deputy post master general who allegedly slapped and then abused a junior official in the presence of the staff and customers.

The staff of the post office did not entertain the customers from 9 to 11 a.m. and demanded the dismissal of Aslam Niazi for beating Assistant Chief Post Master (counter), Abdul Rahim, on a petty negligence.

They said Mr Rahim was suffering from heart disease and observing fast on Saturday when Mr Niazi exchanged harsh words over an issue in the office and later beat him.

“We are working under the supervision of Chief Post Master Yamin Marwat and Mr Niazi should have complained to him instead of beating Mr Rahim,” Azam Khan, one of the staff members told this reporter.

The staff said a senior officer had no authority to brutally torture a junior and an old employee of the office.
