Doctors call off strike

By Our Correspondent

MANSEHRA, Oct 3: Contract doctors in the NWFP on Wednesday announced ending their strike after the provincial government had accepted most of their demands and extended the contracts of 425 doctors to three years, officials said.

A delegation of the Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (Pima) led by the provincial deputy secretary-general of the Jamaat-i-Islami, Dr Tariq Sherazi, held a meeting with provincial health minister Inayatullah Khan.

The delegation apprised the minister of problems of contract doctors who went on strike after the provincial government terminated their contracts.

Pima provincial president Dr Qasim and secretary-general Dr Basharat also attended the meeting. Talking to Dawn, Dr Sherazi said the minister had assured the delegation that all problems of contract doctors would be resolved.
