UET Peshawar’s sub-campuses linked through intranet

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Sept 24: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has provided multi-campus intranet setup for the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology’s Peshawar at Mardan, Bannu and Abbottabad campuses.

According to a news release, the educational environment was changing rapidly with the introduction of information technology. Therefore, the establishment of an IT-based environment was imperative for universities if they wanted to compete internationally.

The HEC is also striving to automate universities with IT- based technology and connect them with each other within the country as well as with foreign universities. The initial step for this was to establish an IT-based network in universities. And the multi-campus intranet setup project is a step in this direction.

The project has been successfully implemented and connected HEC Pakistan Educational Research Network (Pern). The information services centre has also been established at UET Peshawar, benefiting students, administration and faculty alike.

In addition, wireless access hotspots and official website has also been developed (www.nwfpuet.edu.pk). The university’s website provides the latest information about programme and admission details.

Through the project, UET Peshawar’s sub-campuses have been connected with the university’s main campus in Peshawar. The video-conferencing service has also been established for academic and administrative use.
