LAHORE, Sept 8: PPP Information Secretary Sherry Rehman says PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif has finally admitted that he had left the country as a result of a ‘deal’ with the government.Talking to journalists after Mr Sharif’s news conference in London on Saturday, she said the former prime minister had been denying for the past seven years that he had made any deal with the rulers. But, she said, when the Saudi intelligence chief and Saad Al-Hariri reminded Mr Sharif of his obligations under the ‘agreement’ at a news conference in Islamabad and advised him not to return to Pakistan according to his announced schedule, the PML-N leader had to give details of how the ‘deal’ had been reached.

She said now Mr Sharif would be left with no justification to accuse the PPP of cutting deals with the government.

The PPP leader said if her party had believed in deals, Benazir Bhutto would not have faced so many baseless cases and her husband Asif Zardari stayed for eight years in jail.

Sherry Rehman said her party was struggling for the restoration of democracy and saving the country from another martial law.

She said Mr Sharif had set up the All Parties Democratic Movement against Benazir’s advice, probably because he felt more comfortable working with the religious parties and other right-wingers.

“I find their politics very hard to understand”, she said, commenting on the PML-N’s cooperation with the MMA which is still part of the PML-led coalition in Balochistan.

She said the PPP had rendered sacrifices for democracy and played major role in the campaign for the reinstatement of the Chief Justice of Pakistan. She said the PPP would be ahead of other parties even in the future movements for the rights of the people.
