Unattended bag triggers alarm

ISLAMABAD, Sept 3: An unattended bag triggered alarm bells around the Supreme Court building and forced security agencies to take Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to his residence through an alternative route, sources said.

A team of explosives experts arrived at the site after a security official spotted the bag near the judges’ entry gate at around 4.30pm and informed the bomb disposal squad and local police.

A bomb disposal expert told Dawn there was no explosive device in the bag. “There was nothing serious, only a brick was lying in the bag.” He said investigation had revealed that the bag had been placed by a student of the Intelligence School, Murree, performing a practical in a bomb disposal lesson.—M.
