Badr sees APDM’s split in two weeks

GUJRANWALA, Aug 27: The All Pakistan Democratic Movement (APDM) will disintegrate in a fortnight when Muttahida Majlis-I-Amal (MMA) will announce support for Gen Pervez Musharraf in the presidential elections, PPPP General Secretary Jehangir Badr claimed here on Monday.

Talking to reporters after attending the funeral of a local party leader’s son, Badr said the Charter of Democracy signed between the PML-N and PPP and Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) were still intact.

However, he alleged the MMA was not sincere with the APDM or the ARD as it was a part of the government.

He said the PPP’s leadership was still on the ARD platform and the PML-N’s would return to the alliance soon.

He said Benazir Bhutto was negotiating with the government and Gen Musharraf for the restoration of democracy and this process could be termed a dialogue not a ‘deal’.

He said party workers had full confidence in Bhutto’s leadership and she would return to Pakistan soon as the party’s high command had given a green signal in this connection.

Jamali: Former prime minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali has said he was struggling to organise the United Muslim League (UML) in consultations with veteran leaders including Pir Sahib of Pagaro Sharif and others.

Speaking at a briefing in Kamoki on Monday, he ruled out any role of Chaudhary brothers in the future political setup and claimed that the UML would sweep the forthcoming general elections.

He said PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto was negotiating a ‘deal’ with the government and Gen Pervez Musharraf in her own interest and not in the interest of the nation.

Earlier, he inquired after federal parliamentary secretary Rana Umer Nazir at his residence and exchanged views with his father and former federal minister Rana Nazir Ahmad.

Later, he went to Ahmad Nager and called on National Assembly’s Kashmir Committee Chairman and PML leader Chaudhary Hamid Nasir Chattha.
