MPs seek commutation for convict

ISLAMABAD, Aug 21: Twenty-seven parliamentarians, including five ministers, have made an appeal to President Pervez Musharraf to commute the death sentence of a man from Gujranwala to life imprisonment.

The parliamentarians belonging to both the treasury and the opposition parties have made the appeal on a humanitarian ground saying Syed Iqrar Hussain Shah, 22, who is scheduled to be hanged on Saturday on the charge of murder, was the only bread earner of his widowed mother and four young sisters.— Staff Reporter
