DADU, Aug 18: Growers of Pipri waterway, originating from Dadu canal, staged a demonstration outside the office of executive engineer southern irrigation division, here on Saturday to protest against water shortage.
Their leaders Zakir Khan and Haji Ahmed said that irrigation officials were selling water to influential growers at the head of Pipri waterway.
They said due to water shortage in their waterway, hundreds of acres of land remained barren and the growers have not cultivated paddy crop in this season.
CONNECTIONS: Federal Minister for Water and Power, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, has claimed that 400 villages have been electrified in Dadu, Johi, Mehar and Khairpur Nathan Shah talukas of the district while gas connections were provided to 80 villages.
He was speaking at a public gathering after inauguration of electrification schemes at Pat Suleman and Bari villages in Johi taluka on Saturday.
He said that Nai Gaj dam would be constructed at a cost of Rs6 billion to store rainwater of mountains through which 3.4 megawatt electricity would be generated.
He said a road at a cost of Rs6 billion would be completed from Johi town to Kheer village.
He said that electricity had been provided to Pat Suleman and Bari villages at a cost of Rs 28 million.
