Burqa-clad MNAs call for display of pictures

By Our Correspondent

ISLAMABAD, Aug 13: A Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal woman member of the National Assembly complained in the house on Monday that the government’s Lok Virsa cultural organisation had committed a breach of privilege of burqa-clad MNAs of the religious alliance by not displaying their pictures at its museum in Islamabad.

Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain reserved his ruling after the minister of state for information technology and communications assured the house that the burqa-clad women would find their pictures in the museum like other MNAs if they could be recognised from those photographs.

The MMA has 11 women in the 342-seat National Assembly and all but one from a non-Muslim minority community wear burqa veils when they attend the house.
