KARACHI: ‘Violation of merit’ in jobs challenged in SHC
KARACHI, Aug 1: Former City Nazim Niamatullah Khan on Wednesday filed a petition in the Sindh High Court, accusing the Sindh government of violating merit in recruitment in government jobs and depriving eligible youths of their right.
In his petition, he stated that the Sindh government despite a ban on fresh appointments for the last five years was recruiting activists belonging to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League and its ally Muttahida Qaumi Movement. These appointments were being made in the departments of education, home and City District Government Karachi, he said.
Mr Khan stated that these “illegal appointments” were a violation of Article 199 of the constitution as well as fundamental rights of the people.
Naming the secretaries of home and education, the Sindh chief secretary and the CDGK as respondents, he prayed to the court to seek a list of all appointments made during the last five years as well as other relevant records.
He also prayed for cancelling of the “quota allotted to the MQM and the ruling PML” and for appointing eligible persons on merit.
Jamaat-i-Islami Karachi Amir Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui, Deputy Parliamentary Leader in the Sindh Assembly Nasrullah Khan Shaji, PMA Younus Barai and others were also present on the occasion.—PPI
